چکیده

In this paper, we present area and performance-driven clustering techniques for coarse-grained, antifuse-based FPGAs. A macro logic cell in this class of FPGAs has multiple inputs and multiple outputs. Starting with this macro cell, a library of small logic cells can be generated and a target network was mapped with the library. For the minimum-area clustering, our algorithm minimizes the number of required macro logic cells to cover a network. Two linear equations were set up and we found the optimal mapping solution by using the equations. For the performance-driven clustering, the number of macro logic cells on the critical path is minimized by using the extension of Lawler’s algorithm. The results show that the area-driven clustering algorithm reduced the number of macro logic cells by 12.29% and the performancedriven clustering reduced the maximum depth by 44.75% compared to a commercial tool.

Radiation Effects in FPGAs

Total ionizing dose (TID) effects and single event effects (SEE) in antifuse-, Flash-, and SRAM-based field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) are reviewed. There is a brief discussion of the programmable element impact on the FPGA architecture. In the following sections, most radiation data are from antifuse-based FPGAs. The basic TID mechanisms are introduced and used to explain the anomalies i...

Evolving Hardware by Dynamically Reconfiguring Xilinx FPGAs

Evolvable Hardware arises as a promising solution for automatic digital synthesis of digital and analog circuits. During the last decade, a special interest has been focused on evolving digital systems by directly mapping a chromosome on the FPGA configuration bitstream. This approach allowed a great degree of flexibility for evolving circuits. Nowadays, FPGAs routing scheme does not allow doin...

Using Antifuse-Based FPGAs in Performance Critical Digital Designs

We present experimental results on the use of antifuse-based FPGA's in a performance critical digital design, performed at the recently completed Thayer Rapid Prototyping Facility. Our case study focuses on the design of a special purpose ALU for gene sequence analysis. Our work indicates the existence of highly nonlinear relationships between design changes and critical path lengths, due to th...

Power Exploration for Functional Units in Coarse-Grained Reconfigurable Arrays

Spatially tiled architectures such as CGRAs are robust architectural choices for accelerating applications in the DSP, scientific computing, and embedded domains. In the embedded application domain in particular, CGRAs offer a low power alternative to FPGAs by providing coarse-grained word-level computation resources as opposed to FPGAs’ fine-grained bit-level LUTs. This key difference provides...

Hybrid FPGA : architecture and interface

Hybrid FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays) are composed of general-purpose logic resources with different granularities, together with domain-specific coarse-grained units. This thesis proposes a novel hybrid FPGA architecture with embedded coarse-grained Floating Point Units (FPUs) to improve the floating point capability of FPGAs. Based on the proposed hybrid FPGA architecture, we examine ...
